Intuition Rollerbladers,
This past weekend the 2011 AIL World Championships were held at Woodward West. The weekend long event included Beginner, Intermediate, Vert, Female, Advanced, and even an Elite Division, where pros and qualified AIL Advanced competitors skated for $1,200 in prize money. After the contest wound down, everyone headed up to the Lodge just up the hill from Woodward West for the annual AIL Awards Banquet, dinner, and socializing. Rollerblading icon Arlo Eisenberg presented Kato Mateu with the 2011 AIL industry Recognition Award for his work with the WRS. Brian Aragon received the 2011 AIL Skater Recognition Award for his positive contributions to rollerblading in addition to his talent on blades. Arlo then presented the 2011 AIL Hall of Fame Award to Brian Shima. Shima now joins the exclusive AIL Hall of Fame group that also includes Randy Spizer, Chris Edwards, Arlo Eisenberg, Jon Julio, and Dustin Latimer. Pam and Richie Velasquez, AIL founders, closed out the weekend by thanking all the bladers for attending, and encouraged everyone to come back next year. With so many new faces int he crowd this year, the 2012 AIL season is looking more promising than ever.
